Cutting loose one of my fun and interesting builds. Up for sale is a Vietnam M40 or “OG40” clone that took quite a bit of effort to complete. The major difference is that this one is chambered to shoot match .233/5.56 instead of .308 Winchester, and was intended to be a fun training rifle.
Parts include… Vietnam era six digit Remington 700 short action receiver with proper short bolt shroud and thin bolt handle. This receiver has been marked with “U.S.” above the serial number. The stock is an original with the brass pin for added strength. It has been stamped on the grip with the last 4 digits in the SN, and the heel has been stamped with the rack number. The barrel started as a 1:7 twist Douglas XX Premium air gauged blank which is a laser with 77gr SMKs over a bit of Varget or TAC. The scope is number 923 of the 1000 green USMC M40 scopes made by the Leupold Custom Shop and marked as “Redfield 3X-9X”. These are exceedingly hard to find now, I have the box and paperwork to go along with it. The scope base is a Redfield chipped edge base with inverted screws in the scope rings.
The parts were all sent to Armageddon Armory where the rifle was built by a former USMC 2112. The action was blueprinted, the stock was bedded, the action was properly clip slotted, and the barrel was fit and chambered. The barreled action was black oxide coated, and then it was fully assembled into what you see here.
This build took a couple years to complete including 7 months at the gunsmith. It’s a great rifle, and will hopefully make someone really happy. Great for young shooters, old shooters, or any shooters who want to shoot something inexpensive and interesting with some history.
